RxART Canada is proud to have worked with Julia Dault on a project for the Dental and Orthodontic Clinics at The Hospital for Sick Children, often referred to as Sick Kids, in Toronto. Julia Dault’s intricate patterns and vibrant colors have transformed the walls in the patient exam and waiting rooms of the Dental Department, creating a brighter, more inspired, and relaxing environment. This RxART Canada Project was installed in 2019.

The Dental and Orthodontic Clinics see well over 15,000 patients annually. Patients range in age from newborn to early twenties are living with extreme medical conditions including cleft lip or palate, craniofacial, cancer, Down syndrome, and recent recipients of organ transplants. Sick Kids opened its doors in 1875 and is one of the world’s largest and most respected child health-care centres.

Collaborating with RxART Canada has been a marvel. For this project, I created an iterative painting using colour and pattern that was used to transform the dental clinic – where children and caregivers spend countless hours – in the hope of making the space feel lighter, playful and enlivening. I feel lucky to have collaborated on the project and supported RxART Canada's mission, which is so meaningful and resonates so deeply with me.

Thank you to the RxArt team for bringing a celebration of color to our waiting area and clinic wall. Hospital walls can be monotonous and boring. Or they can be full of vibrancy and hope, filled with a bounty of colors. The wonderful vista you have created in the orthodontic waiting area, the evocation of imagery of multicolored balloons (in my view) fills every onlooker with joy and optimism. It invites the child in all of us, patients, parents and care providers, to jump in the pool of colorful balloons. It transcends our mundane wall into an inspiration. THANK YOU.
