RxArt is proud of our collaboration with José Parlá at Incarnation Children’s Center in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City. Incarnation Children’s Center (ICC) is New York City’s only pediatric skilled nursing facility exclusively offering specialized care for children and adolescents living with HIV/AIDS. ICC provides a nurturing home environment to approximately 20 children and young adults at a time. At the time the work was installed, there were21 residents, ages 9 to 21 years old, many of whom have grown up living at ICC. RxArt would like to thank Kiehl’s Since 1851 for generously making this project possible in honor of the Kiehl’s 2016 LifeRide for amfAR.
Parlá created a new series of work that was installed as wall coverings for some of ICC’s most-used living spaces: the dining room, the main residence hallway, recreation sunroom and outdoor roof deck. There, he covered what was a blank brick wall with waves of color to inspire the residents all year long.
